We have written a system which takes RSS / Atom feeds and turns them into CIX messages that can be posted in open conferences.

Feeds can be created by moderators, and messages will be posted to a topic called ‘newsfeed’ within the chosen conference. The newsfeed topic will be automatically created when you set up an RSS feed and posts will be shown as posted by ‘newsfeeder’. If you wish to delete a feed you can request this by email to solutions@cix.co.uk.

Please note the following points :-

1) Any topic designated for external feeds are by their nature public and may be indexed via web search engines and other non authenticated means at some point in the future.

2) Each conference can have one topic for newsfeeds called ‘newsfeed’.

3) Each newsfeed topic can have up to 5 RSS feeds.

4) Each RSS feed is limited to post up to 5 articles per day.

5) If an RSS feed is in active use on CIX, it may not be used again without contacting solutions@cix.co.uk.

7) Due to copyright reasons, the newsfeeder will post a shortened link to the article, the title and a brief summary of the article’s content.

On a related note, we have set up two feeds already. One is in cix:tech_news/newsfeed which has newsfeeds covering computing and
technology.

The other is posting articles by Wendy M Grossman (wendyg@cix) from her net.wars column for CIXen to read and discuss directly. These can be
found in cix:wendyg.public conference.

net.wars is a weekly column that covers on “the border wars between cyberspace and real life”.

We see this as a first, but important, step into bringing in new content onto CIX and to encourage further discussion and to demonstrate some of the unique benefits of the way CIX can be used for this purpose to potential new users.

We hope to introduce further CIX managed feeds in the near future.
